Jorge Posada spent his entire 17-year career from 1995-2011 as a catcher with the New York Yankees. Posada won four World Series titles with the Yankees (1998-2000, 2009) and was considered one of the “Core Four” Yankees along with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte that helped lead New York to four World Series titles in five years. Posada was named an All-Star five times in his career (2000-2003, 2007) and in each one of his All-Star campaigns, he also won a Silver Slugger Award as the American League’s best-hitting catcher. He is a Monument Park honoree and the Yankees retired his #20 jersey in 2015.
Posada was picked in the 24th round by the Yankees in the 1990 draft and made his MLB debut on September 4, 1995. He established a power-hitting reputation during the 2000 season when he belted 28 home runs along with 35 doubles and 86 RBI as the Yankees claimed their third straight World Series title. The 2003 campaign was arguably Posada’s finest as he set career-highs in home runs (30) and RBI (101) while placing third in that year’s A.L. MVP voting. He joined Hall of Famer Yogi Berra as just the second Yankees catcher ever to belt 30 home runs. In 2007, Posada hit 20 home runs and drove in 90 batters in route to posting a career-high batting average of .338 and finishing in sixth place in A.L. MVP voting.
Off the field, Posada has been an active supporter of charitable endeavors, notably donating money to Puerto Rican victims of Hurricane Maria in 2017. He also oversees his own Jorge Posada Foundation, which provides funds to support research of craniosynostosis. Posada was born on August 17, 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
