Keith Moreland is a retired MLB player whose career spanned from 1978-1989. He’s best remembered for his time in the Windy City with the Chicago Cubs from 1982-1987 but also played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1978-1981), San Diego Padres (1988) and Detroit Tigers/Baltimore Orioles (1989).

Moreland played third baseman, right fielder and catcher during his career, compiling a lifetime batting average of .279 along with 121 home runs and 674 RBI. In 1985 with the Cubs, Moreland placed 17th in N.L. MVP voting after he tallied 14 homers along with 106 RBI and posted a batting average of .307. Later in 1987, he hit a career-high 27 home runs and drove in 88 batters. Prior to joining Chicago, Moreland earned a World Series ring with the Phillies in 1980 as they beat the Kansas City Royals, 4-2.

A University of Texas alum, Moreland played college baseball for the Longhorns. He was later named to the College World Series All-Decade Team for the 1970s. His 23 hits in the College World Series from 1974-1976 trails only Sam Fuld of Stanford. In 2010, Moreland’s jersey was retired by the Longhorns. Since his playing days, Moreland has worked as a broadcaster, including working as a radio analyst for Longhorns and Cubs baseball games. He has also called college football games for the American Sports Network.
