Kelly Gruber is a retired Major League Baseball third baseman who enjoyed most of his success playing for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1984-1992. He also played for the California Angels in 1993. Gruber was a two-time All-Star and won both a Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award in 1990. In 1992, he was a member of the Blue Jays’ team that won the World Series after defeating the Atlanta Braves, 4-2.

Gruber grew up in Austin, Texas and attended Westlake High School. He was drafted in the 1st round of the 1980 amateur draft by the Cleveland Indians and, in 1983, was picked-up by the Blue Jays in the Rule 5 draft. Gruber made his MLB debut on April 20, 1984. He became the first Blue Jays player ever to hit for the cycle when he accomplished the feat on April 16, 1989 after going 4-6 with six RBI. Gruber’s best season came in 1990 when he batted .274 with 31 homers, 118 RBI and finished fourth in MVP voting along with winning the aforementioned Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards. During his 10-year career, Gruber batted .259 with 117 homers and 443 RBI. In 1992, Gruber came out with his autobiography titled “Kelly, At Home on Third”.
