Cito Gaston managed the Toronto Blue Jays for 12 seasons from 1989-1997 and 2008-2010, winning two World Series in 1992 and 1993 and, in doing so, became the first African-American manager in baseball history to win a Fall Classic. During his time as skipper, Gaston’s Blue Jays won the American League East Division four times and AL Pennant twice. He finished his career as Toronto’s all-time winningest manager with 448 wins and is a member of the Blue Jays’ Level of Excellence in 1999, inductions into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 and Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

Prior to managing, Gaston spent 11 seasons playing outfield in the majors after making his debut on September 14, 1967. He played for the Atlanta Braves (1967, 1975-1978), San Diego Padres (1969-1974) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1978). While with Atlanta, Gaston roomed with the great Hank Aaron. Statistically, Gaston enjoyed his best season in 1970 when he recorded a batting average of .318 with 29 homers and 93 RBI in route to being named to the NL All-Star Team. He also spent time playing in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League in the late 60s and 70s. Gaston was born on March 17, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas.
