Since playing for the New England Patriots in 2008, Matthew Slater has widely been considered to be one of the best special teams players in the NFL as he’s earned eight Pro Bowl selections (2011-2017, 2019) and five times has been named first-team All-Pro (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019). Beginning in 2011, Slater was named Special Teams Captain for the Patriots and, in his career, has won three Super Bowls (XLIX, LI, LIII). A 5th round pick out of UCLA by the Patriots in the 2008 NFL Draft, Slater earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors as a senior with the Bruins in 2007. His 986 kickoff return yards that season set a UCLA single-season record.

A devout Christian, Slater has been active in charitable endeavors for much of his career. In 2011, Patriots owner Robert Kraft named him the recipient of the 11th Ron Burton Community Service Award. Slater in 2017 was recognized for his leadership and character both on and off the field by winning the Bart Starr Award presented by the sports ministry Athletes in Action. In 2016, Slater hosted a fundraiser to benefit victims of Hurricane Matthew and also donated over $60,000 to benefit hurricane victims in Haiti and the Carolinas. Slater was born on September 9, 1985 in Orange, California and is the son of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Jackie Slater.
