Michael Kay is a sports broadcaster who in 1993 became the radio play-by-play announcer (along with John Sterling) for the New York Yankees before transiting to the tv booth in 2002. He also hosts CenterStage on the Yankee Entertainment and Sports (YES) Network and The Michael Kay Show on radio. A decorated broadcaster, Kay has been the recipient of four Emmys. In 1995, the New York Pro Baseball Scouts honored him with the Dick Young Award for Excellence in Sports Media. Additionally, at the 2000 New York Metro Achievement in Radio Awards, he was named Best Sports Reporter.

Kay’s career dates back to the early 1980s when he was a general assignment reporter for the New York Post. Eventually, he became the beat writer for the Post’s coverage of the Yankees in 1987. Kay in 1989 joined the New York Daily News, while from 1992-1999 he additionally covered the NBA’s New York Knicks for the MSG Network.

Kay has called numerous postseason games for ESPN Radio, including the 2008, 2013 and 2016 NLDS. He was also on the call for the 2008 Home Run Derby and each year emcees other events involving the Yankees such as Old-Timers Day, jersey retirements and World Series celebrations. Kay is a New York native and attended college at Fordham University.
