Considered one of the all-time great pass rushers in NFL history, linebacker Robert Mathis spent his entire 13-year NFL career from 2003-2016 playing for the Indianapolis Colts. Mathis was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and played an integral role on the defensive side of the ball in helping the Peyton Manning-led Colts to a 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. In 2013, Mathis led the NFL in sacks with 19.5 in route to being named First-Team All-Pro and the AFC Defensive Player of the Year. In total for his career Mathis recorded 123 sacks – a Colts record - and retired as the all-time NFL leader in forced fumbles with 52.
Born on February 26, 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia, Mathis played college football at Alabama A&M, where he set the all-time single-season sacks record in NCAA Division I-AA with 20 his senior year. In 2019, he was elected to the Black College Football Hall of Fame. Mathis was picked by the Colts in the 2003 NFL Draft (5th round). After his playing days ended, Mathis was hired by the Colts in 2017 as a pass rush consultant. He became a member of the Colts Ring of Honor in 2021.
