After joining the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2003, Gary Brackett went on to play linebacker for the Colts for the entirety of his nine-year career from 2003-2011. After seeing action mostly as a reserve during his rookie and sophomore campaigns, Brackett started all 16 regular season games for the Colts in 2005, posting a career-high 127 tackles, 92 of which were solo. In 2006, he was named a defensive captain by Indianapolis and turned in his second straight 100-tackle performance with 122 and recorded three forced fumbles. That year, the Colts advanced to Super Bowl XLI and defeated Chicago, 29-17. In 2007, Bracket posted 116 tackles with a career-high four interceptions and seven pass deflections. The next year he recorded an even 100 tackles. His 100-tackle season streak ended in 2009 but just barely, as he contributed 99.
Brackett was born on May 23, 1980 in Glassboro, New Jersey and played college at nearby Rutgers, where he earned the team’s defensive MVP honor as a senior. In 2009, Brackett won the Arthur S. Arkush Humanitarian Award, recognizing his work in the community through the IMPACT Foundation, a non-profit charity he started in 2007. After his playing days, Brackett received an MBA in the Executive Leadership program from George Washington U. and started a career as an entrepreneur, starting The Brackett Restaurant Group. He also is a popular motivational speaker on the subjects of leadership, entrepreneurship and personal development. In 2011, he authored the book “Winning: From Walk-On To Captain In Football And Life”.
