Scott Drew has served as men’s head basketball coach at Baylor since 2003 and led the Bears to a 2021 NCAA National Championship, the school’s first ever. He coached the Baylor program to a remarkable turnaround after winning just 21 games his first three seasons, starting with a 21-9 mark and berth in the NCAA Tournament during the 2007-2008 campaign, just the schools fifth tournament appearance ever. Baylor’s rise continued under Drew as he led the school to the Elite Eight in 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 and Sweet 16 in 2013-2014 and 2016-2017. For his efforts, Drew was honored in 2010 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as the state’s Division I Men’s Coach of the Year. He has also twice been named Big 12 Coach of the Year (2020 and 2021) and in 2020 was named by NBC Sports as National Coach of the Year.
Born on October 23, 1970, Drew attended Butler University, where he worked as a student assistant. After graduation, Drew was hired by his father Homer as an assistant at Valparaiso, where he served in that capacity for 9 years. After his father retired, Drew served as head coach of the Crusaders for the 2002-2003 season, leading them to a 20-11 record and regular season Mid-Continent Conference title in route to an invitation to the NIT. In his 10 seasons coaching at Valpo, the Crusaders made six NCAA Tournament appearances, including a spot in the Sweet 16 during the 1997-1998 campaign. Drew is the brother of Grand Canyon head coach Bryce Drew.
