Travis Fryman is a former MLB shortstop and third baseman who played from 1990-2002. Fryman played for the Detroit Tigers from 1990-97 and the Cleveland Indians from 1998-2002. In his career, he was a five-time MLB All-Star from 1992-94 and in 1996 and 2000. He earned a Silver Slugger award in 1992 behind a 20-home run season in which he had 96 RBI while also going to the All-Star Game for the first time. Fryman was awarded a Gold Glove for his defense after the 2000 season. Shortly after joining the Indians, Fryman produced his best professional season in 2000; in addition to his Gold Glove, he established career-highs with a .321 batting average, .516 slugging percentage, .392 on-base percentage, 184 hits and 106 RBI.
For his impressive play that season he was named the Man of the Year by the Cleveland Baseball Writers’ Association while his teammates honored him with Gordon Cobbledick Golden Tomahawk Award. In his 13-year career, Fryman maintained a .274 batting average, hit 223 home runs and knocked in 1,022 runners. He retired following the 2002 season and, in his post-playing career, has worked as a hitting instructor for the Indians farm league system at the A, AA and AAA levels. He also served as manager from 2008-2010 of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
