Andre Tippett is a Hall of Fame NFL linebacker who played 11 years in the NFL for the New England Patriots from 1982-1993. He was a Pro Bowl selection for five straight years from 1984-1988, earning two First-Team All-Pro nods in 1984 and 1988. A known pass-rush threat, Tippett recorded 100 quarterback sacks in 151 career games played

From 1985-1987, Tippett was named the AFC’s Linebacker of the Year by the NFLPA and, in 1985, he earned AFC Player of the Year and NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. A member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, he also was honored by New England with a place in their Ring of Honor. In 2008, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Tippett was selected in the 2nd round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Patriots out of the University of Iowa, where he was an All-American in 1981 and helped the Hawkeyes to a Big 10 title and Rose Bowl win. Tippett is also a member of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and his home state, Alabama, inducted him into its Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Tippett was born on December 27, 1959 in Birmingham, Alabama.
