Barry Alvarez Booking Agent Details
Barry Alvarez served as head football coach at the University of Wisconsin for 16 years from 1990-2005. The most successful coach in Badgers history, Alvarez won three Big Ten Conference titles and three Rose Bowls while compiling a record of 118-73-4. At the time of his retirement, Alvarez’s .727 winning percentage in bowl games was highest among head coaches with a minimum of 11 postseason appearances. He became just the 10th coach in the history of the Big Ten to win 100 games at one school. Alvarez was twice named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994 and, in the former year, was named the AFCA Coach of the Year and Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year. In 2010, Alvarez was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and, in 2017, he was honored with the Paul “Bear” Bryant Lifetime Achievement Award.
Born on December 30, 1946, Alvarez was raised in Langeloth, Pennsylvania before playing college football under the legendary coach Bob Devaney at the University of Nebraska. In 2003, the school honored Alvarez with its Distinguished Alumnus Award. Alvarez got his start in coaching in 1973 when he was hired as an assistant coach at Lincoln High School in Nebraska. He moved to the college ranks in 1979 when he became the linebacker coach at the University of Iowa. Off the field, Alvarez has served as the athletics director at Wisconsin since 2004. In 2006, Alvarez authored the book “Don’t Flinch.” A bronze statue featuring Alvarez’s likeness was unveiled in 2006 and can be found in the Kellner Plaza area of Camp Randall Stadium.
