Ryan Day is the current head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, a position he’s held since taking over for Urban Meyer on December 4, 2018. Previously, he was the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2017-2018. In his first full year at the helm, Day coached Ohio State to an overall record of 16-1, including a perfect 12-0 mark in the regular season, which resulted in a Big Ten championship, spot in the College Football Playoff and a No. 3 ranking at season’s end. For his efforts, Day was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, the first Buckeyes coach in 40 years to be so honored. He also was recognized by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) as the best first-year coach in the country.
Prior to joining Ohio State’s staff, Day was a longtime assistant in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles (2015) and San Francisco 49ers (2016) and college ranks at Boston College (2003-2004, 2007-2011, 2013-2014), Temple (2006, 2012), Florida (2005) and New Hampshire (2002). Day was born on March 12, 1979 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He played quarterback in college at the University of New Hampshire, where he set several school passing records, and was coached by Chip Kelly, who served as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator (Day would later work with Kelly in Philadelphia and San Francisco).
