Bruce Bochy managed the San Francisco Giants for 13 seasons from 2007-2019 and led them to three World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014. The 2010 championship was the first since the Giants moved to San Francisco from New York in 1957. Prior to managing the Giants, Bochy skippered the San Diego Padres for 12 seasons from 1995-2006, which included four postseason berths, a National League Pennant and appearance in the 1998 World Series. He was named National League Manager of the Year in 1996. Bochy’s overall record as a manager was 2,003-2,029, which at the time he was just the 11th skipper to ever record 2,000 wins. Bochy retired as the Giants’ all-time winningest manager with 1,052 wins and is the only manager in MLB history to win 900 games with two teams.
Prior to managing, Bochy spent nine seasons playing catcher for the Houston Astros (1978-1980), New York Mets (1982) and Padres (1983-1987). In 1985 while playing for the Padres, Bochy hit a walk-off homer off of Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, the only walk-off that Ryan ever allowed during his celebrated career. Born on April 16, 1955 in Bussac-Foret, France, Bochy’s father was in the military and moved several times before settling in Melbourne, Florida. Bochy attended Brevard Community College before being picked by the Astros in the 1975 draft (1st round). He made his debut in the majors on July 19, 1978. Bochy got his start in coaching when he was hired in 1989 to work in the Padres minor league system. Away from the field, Bochy in 2011 was honored by the Positive Coaching Alliance with the Ronald L. Jensen Award for Lifetime Achievement. He authored a book in 2015 called “A Book of Walks”.
