Rich Aurilia is a former MLB shortstop who played the majority of his professional career from 1995-2009 with the San Francisco Giants (1995-2003, 2007-2009) but also spent time with the Seattle Mariners/San Diego Padres (2004) and Cincinnati Reds (2005-2006). Aurilia is a member of the Giants Walk of Fame. After breaking into the majors with the Giants in 1995, Aurilia steadily began developing himself at the plate. In 1999, he hit .281 with 22 home runs and 80 RBI after hitting nine homers the year prior.

The 2000 season saw him record an almost identical campaign to that of 1999 as he hit .271 with 20 home runs and 79 RBI. Aurilia produced his finest season in 2001, hitting a career-high 37 homers. His 37 doubles, 97 RBI, 206 hits and batting average of .324 similarly were all career-best marks. For his production, Aurilia was named an All-Star, won a Silver Slugger award as the N.L.’s best hitting shortstop and also came in 12th in that season’s N.L. MVP voting.

Aurilia joined the Reds in 2005 and, in his first year in Cincinnati, had 14 home runs with 68 RBI. The next season, he went on to hit 23 home runs, the most since his stellar 2001 campaign, and also drove in 70 runs. After retiring in 2010, Aurilia served as a baseball analyst with NBC Sports Bay Area.
