Clinton Portis is a retired running back who played in the National Football League for the Denver Broncos (2002-2003) and Washington Redskins (2004-2010). Portis was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2002 after amassing 1,508 rushing yards (a Broncos rookie record) and was a two-time Pro Bowler in 2003 and 2008. During his seven seasons in Washington, Portis averaged 81.2 yards per game rushing and was named to the list of the 80 Greatest Redskins players of all-time. In total for his career, Portis had 9,923 yards on the ground – an average of 4.4 yards per play – and scored 75 touchdowns.

He was picked in the 2nd round of the 2002 draft by the Broncos out of the University of Miami. During his time with the Hurricanes, Portis became just the second freshman since 1975 to start at running back and set a school record for freshman with five games of at least 100 yards rushing. In total his first year, Portis recorded 838 rushing yards with 8 touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Big East in 2001 and helped Miami win the national championship that same year with a win in the Rose Bowl over Nebraska. In 2014, he was inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame.
