Dustin Pedroia spent his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career from 2006-2019 playing second base for the Boston Red Sox. One of the most popular players during his time in Boston, Pedroia won two World Series in 2007 and 2013. The four-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award-winner was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2007 and MVP in 2008 after a season in which he batted .326. He became the first second baseman since Hall of Famer Nellie Fox in 1959 to win the honor. Also in 2008, Pedroia became the first Boston second baseman to ever win a Silver Slugger Award. Additionally, Pedroia was the recipient in 2013 of the Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Wilson.
Born on August 17, 1983, in Woodland, California, Pedroia played college baseball at Arizona State, where he was named On Deck Circle MVP, joining such other Sun Devil greats as Barry Bonds who’ve received the honor. In 2004, Pedroia was a first-team All-American and finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented annually to college baseball’s best player. He was picked by Boston in the 2004 MLB Draft (2nd round) and made his debut in the majors on August 22, 2006. As evidence of his popularity, Pedroia was featured on the video game cover of MLB 09: The Show. He also authored an autobiography titled “Born to Play: My Life in the Game” and a book for children titled “Wally the Green Monster’s Journey Through Time”.
