Since 1988, Eli Gold has been a familiar voice to University of Alabama football fans, doing radio play-by-play for the Crimson Tide, the longest-tenured commentator in the SEC Conference. Gold has also covered other school sports for the SEC Network, including baseball, soccer, volleyball, softball and women’s basketball. A five-time recipient of Alabama Sportscaster of the Year, Gold is a member of the state of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and University of Alabama Hall of Fame. In 2019, the National Football Foundation presented Gold with the Chris Schenkel Award.
Gold has an extensive broadcast background across many sports. In addition to calling games for the Crimson Tide, Gold also calls NFL games as part of Sports USA’s radio broadcasts as well as post-season college football games for the network. He worked for NASCAR’s Motor Racing Network for 41 years until 2016 and hosted the nationally syndicated radio show “NASCAR Live” for 33 years, which was broadcast on more than 450 stations. He also previously served as the radio play-by-play voice of the Nashville Predators and television play-by-play voice of the St. Louis Blues. Additionally, he worked for CBS Sports, ESPN, NBC Sports and TNN Motorsports as part of their NASCAR coverage, for CBS Sports on its NCAA basketball broadcast and NBC Sports on its Arena Football League coverage. Gold was born on December 15, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. He got his start in broadcasting when he worked as a sports reporter for the Mutual Broadcasting System in 1972. Gold has authored several books, including “Bear’s Boys” and “From Peanuts To The Press Box”.
