Frank Thomas, affectionately known as “The Big Hurt”, is a former MLB first baseman and designated hitter whose career spanned from 1990-2008, primarily with the Chicago White Sox (1990-2005) but also the Oakland Athletics (2006, 2008) and Toronto Blue Jays (2007-2008). Thomas was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014, his first year of eligibility. In 2010, Thomas’ jersey #35 was retired by the White Sox and, in 2011, the team unveiled a statue of Thomas at U.S. Cellular Field. For his career, he had 2,468 hits, 521 home runs and maintained a .301 lifetime batting average. 

 Thomas won back-to-back A.L. MVP awards in 1993 and 1994, as both seasons saw him win Silver Slugger awards as well behind a cumulative batting average of .337. In 11 separate seasons, Thomas received A.L. MVP votes, finishing in the top 10 eight times, including seven straight years from 1991-1997. He was also named an All-Star in five straight seasons between 1993-1997, hitting at least .308 with no less than 35 home runs and 101 RBI every year. His batting average of .347 in 1997 led MLB and that season he finished third in A.L. MVP voting behind Ken Griffey Jr. and Tino Martinez. In 2000, Thomas set career-highs in home runs (43) and RBI (143) while hitting .328 on the year, a performance that saw him named runner-up for that year’s MVP honor and recipient of the American League’s Comeback Player of the Year award.

Since his playing days, Thomas has worked as a baseball analyst for TBS, NBC and Fox Sports. He also founded a record label called W2W Records and co-founded another label called Liger Enterprises.Thomas was born on May 27, 1968 in Columbus, Georgia and attended college at Auburn, joining Charles Barkley and Bo Jackson as arguably the greatest athletes to ever attend the school.
