Gregg Popovich Booking Agent Details
Considered one of the greatest coaches in the history of the National Basketball Association, Gregg Popovich has served as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs since 1996. Affectionately known as “Pop”, Popovich became the NBA’s all-time winningest coach for combined wins in the regular season and playoffs on April 13, 2019, surpassing Lenny Wilkens.
Popovich coached the Spurs to five NBA championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014 and is one of just five coaches in league history to win that number of titles. He has also coached in the All-Star Game four times and three times has been named NBA Coach of the Year.
Additionally, Popovich has worked on the coaching staffs of several U.S. teams in international play, including the 2002 FIBA World Championship and 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2015, Popovich succeeded Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski as head coach of Team USA.
Prior to coaching the Spurs, Popovich worked as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors from 1992-1994 and Spurs from 1988-1992. He got his first job coaching when he served as an assistant at the Air Force Academy from 1973-1979. His first head coaching job came in 1979 when he accepted the position at Pomona-Pitzer.
Popovich was born on January 28, 1949 in East Chicago, Indiana and went to Merrillville High School before heading west to attend college at the Air Force Academy. During his time in college, Popovich played basketball all four years and led the Falcons in scoring his senior season. Off the court, Popovich has supported numerous charitable causes, including the Innocence Project, San Antonio Food Bank, J/P Haitian Relief Organization and Shoes That Fit.
