Joe Girardi led the New York Yankees from 2008-2017, Philadelphia Phillies from 2020-2022 and Miami Marlins in 2006. During his 10 seasons in New York, Girardi compiled a record of 910-710, which included three American East Division titles and a win in the 2009 World Series. In 2006 with the Marlins, Girardi was named NL Manager of the Year.
As a player, Girardi played in the majors for 15 seasons for the Chicago Cubs (1989-1992), Colorado Rockies (1993-1995), Yankees (1996-1999) and St. Louis Cardinals (2003). He won three World Series titles with the Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999 and was an All-Star selection in 2000. Girardi was the catcher for two memorable Yankees games…a no hitter thrown by Dwight Gooden and a perfect game pitched by David Cone.
Girardi was born in Peoria, IL and played college baseball at Northwestern University from 1983-1986, where he was twice named All-Big Ten and three-times named Academic All-American. He was a 5th round pick by the Cubs in the 1986 MLB draft and made his debut in the majors on April 4, 1989. Girardi has also spent time in the broadcast booth working for the YES Network, Fox Sports and MLB Network.
