Leo Mazzone served as the pitching coach for the Atlanta Braves from 1990-2005 and developed a reputation for being one of baseball’s premier pitching coaches. He oversaw one of the best rotations in MLB history that included Hall of Famers Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz. Between 1991 and 1998, those pitchers won a combined six Cy Young Awards.

ESPN ranked the Mazzone-led pitching staffs of 1993 and 1998 as two of the top 10 pitching rotations of all time and ESPN.com named him as the top assistant coach on its all-time list. During his tenure as pitching coach, Atlanta won 14 consecutive N.L. East titles, five N.L. Pennants and the 1995 World Series.

In 2006 and 2007, Mazzone served as the pitching coach for the Baltimore Orioles. Earlier in his career prior to coaching, Mazzone played from 1967-1973 in the San Francisco Giants minor leagues. From 1974-1976, he played in the Oakland Athletics farm system before becoming manager of the Class-A Corpus Christi Seagulls in 1977. In 2016, he became a pitching advisor at Furman University and has also worked as a radio co-host and television analyst. He’s a member of the Kinston Professional Baseball Hall of Fame.
