Dale Murphy is a retired baseball player who enjoyed an 18-year career in the majors from 1976-1993 with the Atlanta Braves (1976-1990), Philadelphia Phillies (1990-1992) and Colorado Rockies (1993). Murphy was a seven-time All-Star (1980, 1982-1987) while playing with Atlanta. Murphy enjoyed his peak years from 1982-1987 when he failed to hit at least 36 home runs and register 100 RBI just once.

In 1982 and 1983 while with Atlanta, he was named the back-to-back N.L. MVP while leading the league in RBI both years. He won four consecutive Silver Slugger awards from 1982-1985 and five straight Gold Gloves for his defense from 1982-1986. Additionally, in 1984 and 1985 he led the N.L. in home runs. Murphy finished his career with a lifetime .265 batting average, hitting 398 home runs and driving in 1,266 runs. Atlanta retired his jersey #3 in 1994 and he is a member of the Braves Hall of Fame.

Murphy was the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award in 1988, honoring his skill, sportsmanship and community involvement. Other similar honors included the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award in 1985 and Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year” in 1987. He has served as an advisor for the charitable groups Operation Kids and ASCEND: A Humanitarian Alliance.
