Mark Richt served as head football coach at The University of Georgia from 2001 – 2015 and The University of Miami from 2016 – 2018. At Georgia, he complied a 145-51 record, won two SEC Championships (2002 2005) and five SEC Eastern Division titles (2002 –2003, 2005, 2011 –2012). He was twice named SEC Coach of the Year (2002, 2005). At Miami, he won one ACC Coastal Division title (2017) and was named ACC Coach of the Year and received the Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award that same year. He went 26-13 in three seasons at Miami before announcing his retirement on December 30, 2018.
Prior to being named head coach at Georgia, he served as an assistant coach at Florida State under Bobby Bowden, first as quarterbacks coach (1990 – 1993) and then as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach (1994 – 2000). While at Florida State, Richt was part of seven straight ACC titles and two National Championships (1993, 1999).
Richt played quarterback at Miami from 1978 – 1982 under coach Howard Schnellenberger and served as the backup to future NFL stars Jim Kelly, Vinny Testaverde and Bernie Kosar. Richt was born in Omaha, Nebraska and went to high school at Boca Raton High in Florida. Richt is a devout Christian and has taken several mission trips to Latin America. In 2008, Richt took more than 20 Georgia football players on a five-day mission trip to Honduras.
