Mark Teixeira played first base in the majors from 2003-2016 with the Texas Rangers (2003-2007), Atlanta Braves (2007-2008), L.A. Angels (2008) and New York Yankees (2009-2016.) Teixeira was a three-time All-Star (2005 & 2009, 2015) and won three Silver Slugger Awards (2004, 2005 & 2009). He was also known for his solid defense, which is evidenced by his winning five Gold Gloves (2005, 2006, 2009, 2010 & 2012.)
In 2009, his first season with the Yankees, Teixeira led the American League with 39 home runs and 122 RBI while finishing runner-up to Joe Mauer in A.L. MVP voting. That season, he helped the Yankees to a World Series title when they beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-2. Teixeira earned MVP votes over the next two seasons as well, belting 33 home runs with 108 RBI in 2010 and 39 homers to go along with 111 RBI for the 2011 campaign. In 2003 with the Rangers, Teixeira finished fifth in A.L. Rookie of the Year voting after hitting 26 homers with 84 RBI. He set career-highs in home runs (43) and RBI (144) with Texas in 2005, a season in which he batted .301.
Teixeira was born on April 11, 1980 in Annapolis, Maryland and played college baseball at Georgia Tech, where in 2000 he won the Dick Howser Award, which is presented each year to the top collegiate baseball player in the United States. He was picked by Texas in the 1st round (fifth pick overall) of the 2001 draft and made his MLB debut on April 1, 2003. After his playing days ended, Teixeira went to work for ESPN in 2017 as a baseball analyst.
