Nick Faldo enjoyed an illustrious professional golf career that was highlighted by his six major tournament wins – three Masters in 1989, 1990 and 1996 and three Open Championships in 1987, 1990 and 1992. Faldo won more than 40 golf tournaments around the globe, including 9 wins on the PGA Tour and 30 on the European Tour. His wins on the European Tour ranks 5th all-time and included three World Match Play Championships, three Irish Opens and three French Opens. Faldo was honored by the PGA of America in 1992 with its Player of the Year Award, the first international player to be so honored.
Faldo won the European Tour Order of Merit twice and was ranked as the world’s top-ranked golfer for 97 weeks in 1993-1994. Aside from his individual accomplishments, Faldo was also one of the all-time great competitors in international team play. He first competed for the European team at the 1977 Ryder Cup and holds the all-time mark for appearances with 11. He also held the record for most points scored with 25 until Spain’s Sergio Garcia passed him in 2018. Faldo became a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1997.
Away from competition, Faldo in 1996 started the non-profit Faldo Series, the world’s largest co-ed junior golf organization. A successful businessman, Faldo has been involved in numerous ventures from golf design to media production to a golf and lifestyle product collection. In 2008, Faldo joined CBS Sports as the network’s lead golf analyst, partnering with Jim Nantz. In 2009, Faldo was honored by Queen Elizabeth II with knighthood, becoming just the second golfer ever to be so honored (the other was Sir Henry Cotton).
