Steve Stricker joined the PGA Tour in 1994 and won 12 tournaments, including two FedEx Cup playoff events and the 2001 WGC-Match Play. His most successful season occurred in 2009 when he won three times and finished second on the money list. Stricker was ranked in the top-10 in the world for over 250 weeks and climbed to No. 2 in 2009. Stricker was twice named in 2006 and 2007 the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year and, in 2012, was presented the Payne Stewart Award for his charity work, sportsmanship and character. In 2013, Stricker received the Byron Nelson Award as a result of having the PGA Tour’s best scoring average.
Stricker in 2017 joined the PGA Tour of Champions and, the next year, won three events - the Cologuard Classic, Rapiscan Systems Classic and Sanford International. In 2019, he won the U.S. Senior Open and Regions Tradition. A popular player and respected by his peers, Stricker served as captain of the U.S. team that won the Presidents Cup in 2017, was a vice-captain of the Ryder Cup team in 2018 and was named captain of the 2020 Ryder Cup team.
Born on February 23, 1967 in Edgerton, Wisconsin, Stricker played college golf at the University of Illinois, where he was a two-time All-American in 1988 and 1989. Stricker turned pro in 1990 and competed on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, where he won twice. He started playing on the PGA Tour in 1994 and got his first win two years later at the Kemper Open. In 2013, Stricker teamed up with American Family Insurance to start the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation.
