Reggie Theus played the guard position in the NBA for 13 seasons from 1978-1991 for the Chicago Bulls (1978-1984), Kansas City/Sacramento Kings (1984-1988), Atlanta Hawks (1988-1989), Orlando Magic (1989-1990) and New Jersey Nets (1990-1991). After being picked by the Bulls in the first round (9th overall pick) of the 1978 draft, Theus enjoyed a strong rookie season and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He would twice go on to be named an All-Star while with the Bulls, including in 1982-1983 when he averaged a career-best 23.8 point per contest. After his playing days, Theus went into coaching, including stints as head coach at New Mexico State (2005-2007), with the Sacramento Kings (2007-2008) and at Cal State Northridge (2013-2018). In his first year at New Mexico State, Theus led the Aggies to a WAC tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament after they went 6-24 the season prior to his arrival.
Born on October 13, 1957, Theus played college basketball at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas from 1976-1978 under legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian and was named a second-team All-American his junior year. In 1989, Theus became a member of the UNLV Athletic Hall of Fame and, in 1997, the school retired his jersey #23, making Theus just the 8th player in the history of UNLV to be so honored along such greats as Sidney Green, Greg Anthony, Larry Johnson, Armon Gilliam and Stacey Augmon. Off the court, Theus has worked as a basketball analyst for Turner Sports and Fox Sports Net and appeared as an actor in “Book of Love”, “Hang Time”, “Like Mike” and “Forget Paris”.
