Jason Kidd played guard in the NBA from 1994-2013 with the Dallas Mavericks (1994-1996, 2008-2012), Phoenix Suns (1996-2001), New Jersey Nets (2001-2008) and New York Knicks (2012-2013). A 2018 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Kidd received co-Rookie of the Year honors in 1995 (sharing the honor with Grant Hill) and was a 10-time All-Star. He was also named to the All-NBA First-Team five times, led the NBA in assists five times and won an NBA title with the Mavericks in 2011. Also recognized for his defense, Kidd was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team four times and the NBA All-Defensive Second Team five times. Internationally, he won gold medals representing the U.S. at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia and 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The Nets retired his #5 jersey in 2013.
After retiring from playing, Kidd moved to coaching and served as head coach of the Nets (2013-2014) and Milwaukee Bucks (2014-2018). He later was hired by the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant in 2019. Born on March 23, 1973 in San Francisco, California, Kidd was twice named California Mr. Basketball and was the Naismith Prep Player of the Year in 1992 before moving on to play college basketball at Cal Berkeley, where he spent two years from 1992-1994. He was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 1993 and the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1994. He is a member of the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame and had his #5 jersey retired in 2004.
