Rich Gannon spent 17 seasons playing quarterback in the NFL from 1987-2004 for the Minnesota Vikings (1987-1992), Washington Redskins (1993), Kansas City Chiefs (1995-1998) and Oakland Raiders (1999-2004). He was selected by the New England Patriots in the 4th round of the 1987 Draft before being traded to Minnesota. During his time in Oakland, Gannon was named NFL MVP in 2002 after posting a career-high 418 passes for 4,689 yards and led the Raiders to a berth in Super Bowl XXXVII against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gannon was also a four-time Pro Bowler and back-to-back Pro Bowl MVP, a feat that has never been duplicated. He was additionally a two-time first-team All-Pro and was named by the Washington D.C. Touchdown Club as the AFC Player of the Year three times from 2000-2002. Gannon holds several all-time Raiders single season records, including passing yards (4,689), passing completions (418) and pass attempts (618). In total for his career, Gannon threw for 28,743 yards and 180 touchdowns.
Born on December 20, 1965 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gannon played college football at the University of Delaware and was named the Yankee Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year his senior season. He set 21 all-time University of Delaware records and was inducted into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. After retiring from playing, Gannon joined CBS Sports as an NFL analyst in 2005. In 2019, he became a member of the National Quarterback Hall of Fame.
