Alan Page played in the NFL from 1967-1981 for the Minnesota Vikings (1967-1978) and Chicago Bears (1978-1981). Considered one of the greatest defensive lineman in league history, Page was the first defensive player to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award. Page, together with Jim Marshall, Carl Eller, and Gary Larsen, formed one of the most dominating defensive lines in NFL history known as the “Purple People-Eaters.” Page played in four Super Bowls with the Vikings, was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and six-time first-team All-Pro. He was also a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team. His best season came in 1971 when he tallied 109 tackles with 10 quarterback sacks and 3 safeties. Page is a member of the Vikings Ring of Honor and his jersey #88 has been retired by the team. In 1988, Page was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Page was drafted by the Vikings in the 1st round of the 1967 NFL/AFL Draft out of the University of Notre Dame, where he played from 1963-1967. He was an integral part of the 1966 national championship team and was a consensus All-American that same year. In the midst of his football career, Page enrolled in law school and earned a law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1978. The next year, he went into private practice through 1985 before joining the Minnesota attorney general’s office. In 1993, Page was named an associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court and held the position until he retired in 2015.
