Rod Brind’Amour played center in the NHL from 1989-2010 with the St. Louis Blues (1989-1991), Philadelphia Flyers (1991-1999) and Carolina Hurricanes (1999-2010). Arguably the greatest player in Carolina history, he served as captain for the better part of five seasons, including when the Hurricanes won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2006. He is a member of the Flyers Hall of Fame and his jersey #17 was retired by the Hurricanes in 2011.

A consistent scorer, Brind’Amour was named an NHL All-Star in 1992 in route to scoring 33 goals with 44 assists during his first year in Philadelphia. The next season, he set a career-high in goals with 37 while also registering 49 assists for the Flyers. In 1993-1994, he continued to produce offensively, including career-best numbers in assists (62) and points (97). In 1997, he helped lead the Flyers to a Stanley Cup appearance. During the 1999-2000 season, Brind’Amour was traded to Carolina, where he’d go on to spend the remainder of his career. He helped the team to a Stanley Cup appearance in 2002, where they ultimately lost to the Detroit Red Wings. Named captain of the Hurricanes before the 2005-2006 season, Brind’Amour scored 31 goals with 39 assists that season and led the team to another Stanley Cup appearance, which this time saw Carolina emerge victorious over Edmonton in seven games. In 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, Brind’Amour won back-to-back Frank J. Selke trophies as the NHL’s top defensive forward.

Brind’Amour retired in 2010 and was hired by Carolina as an assistant coach in 2011. He was named head coach in 2018 and, in his first season leading the team, coached the Hurricanes to a 46-29 record and berth in the Eastern Conference Finals, making the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Off the ice, Brind’Amour was recognized for his work with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2002 by being honored with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, which is given to Canadian citizens who have contributed significantly to their community.
