Wes Welker played wide receiver in the NFL from 2004-2015 with the San Diego Chargers (2004), Miami Dolphins (2004-2006), New England Patriots (2007-2012), Denver Broncos (2013-2014) and St. Louis Rams (2015). Welker enjoyed much of his success during his time in New England – he played in three Super Bowls (XLII, XLVI, XLVIII) - and received postseason accolades in each of his six seasons with the team. He was named to five straight Pro Bowls between 2008-2012 and, in 2009 and 2011, he also earned first-team All-Pro honors while being named second-team All-Pro in 2007 and 2008.
As one of quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite targets, Welker recorded a minimum of 111 catches and 1,165 yards of receiving in all but one year. In 2007, 2009 and 2011, Welker led the NFL in receptions. One of his finest campaigns came in 2011 when he amassed 122 passes for a career-high 1,569 yards. He also hauled in nine touchdown passes that season. By the end of his tenure in New England, Welker held the top four reception totals in a single season in franchise history.
Since his playing days, Welker has worked in the NFL as an assistant coach, first with the Houston Texans in 2017 and 2018 before moving west to the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. Born on May 1, 1981 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Welker signed as an undrafted free agent with San Diego in 2004 out of Texas Tech, where he earned All-Big-12 honors in 2002 and 2003.
