Fran Tarkenton is a former NFL quarterback who played 18 years mostly with the Minnesota Vikings (1961-1966, 1972-1978) and also the New York Giants (1967-1971). A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1986) and College Football Hall of Fame (1987), Tarkenton was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection during his career, including the periods from 1964-1970 and 1974-1976.
In 1975 with Minnesota, Tarkenton threw 25 touchdowns for 2,994 yards, compiling a 91.8 passer rating while completing a career-high 64.2 percent of his attempted passes. His stellar year earned him a First-Team All-Pro selection, the Bert Bell Award, the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and MVP honors. He was a Second-Team All-Pro pick in 1973 while his 25 touchdowns through the air in 1978 led the league that season. Tarkenton led the Vikings to three appearances in the Super Bowl (VIII, IX and XI).
Tarkenton enjoyed a successful collegiate career at the University of Georgia, where he was a two-time First-Team All-SEC selection in 1959 and 1960. He became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987. After his playing days, Tarkenton spent time as a broadcaster, working as an analyst for Monday Night Football and co-host of the popular tv show That’s Incredible! Additionally, he had a successful business career in computer software development and founded several businesses, including GoSmallBiz and Tarkenton Financial.
