Bengie Molina is a former MLB catcher who played from 1998-2010 with the Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels (1998-2005), Toronto Blue Jays (2006), San Francisco Giants (2007-2010) and Texas Rangers (2010). Molina was a career .274 hitter who had 144 home runs with 711 RBI. In 2000, his first full season in the big leagues, Molina hit .281 with 14 homers and 71 RBI, finishing fourth in that year’s A.L. Rookie of the Year voting. In 2002 and 2003, Molina won back-to-back Gold Gloves as the top A.L. defensive catcher while winning a World Series ring in 2002 with the Angels, who defeated the Giants in seven games for their first-ever championship. Molina, for his part, batted .286 with six hits and a pair of RBI in the Fall Classic.
During his career, Molina earned praise from pitchers for his presence behind home plate but his offensive contributions were certainly not lacking. Molina began to display a consistent ability to hit for power as his career went on. In 2006 and 2007, he hit 19 home runs in back-to-back fashion while, in 2008, at the age of 33, he had one of his most impressive offensive seasons, notching 16 home runs with a career-best 95 RBI with the Giants. Both in 2007 & 2008, he was the recipient of the Willie Mac Award as San Francisco most inspirational player. After his playing career ended, Molina worked as a coach and in broadcasting with the Rangers and Cardinals. He is the older brother of Major League catchers Yadier and Jose Molina.
