Tim Salmon is a former MLB outfielder who spent his entire 14-year career from 1992-2004 and 2006 with the Los Angeles Angels. One of the most popular players in franchise history, Salmon played an important role in the Angels winning the 2002 World Series over the San Francisco Giants after hitting .346, including two home runs. At the time of his retirement, Salmon was the all-time Angels franchise leader in walks (965) and homers (299). He was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame in 2015.
Salmon made his MLB debut on August 21, 1992. In 1993, his first full year in the big leagues, Salmon notched 31 home runs along with 95 RBI and a batting average of .283 in route to winning A.L. Rookie of the Year honors. Salmon in 1995 placed 7th in A.L. MVP voting and won a Silver Slugger Award after he set career-highs in home runs (34) and batting average (.330) while also accruing 105 RBI. In 1997, Salmon once again finished 7th in that year’s A.L. MVP voting, hitting .296 with 33 home runs and a career-best 129 RBI.
The 2001 season saw Salmon struggle offensively but he bounced back during the World Series-winning season of 2002, hitting 22 homers with 88 RBI and a .288 batting average. His resurgent performance earned him A.L. Comeback Player of the Year honors. After his playing career, Salmon turned to broadcasting and, in 2014, became a pre and post-game commentator for Angels broadcasts on Fox Sports West.
