Bobby Clarke is a former NHL center who played his entire 15-year career from 1969-1984 with the Philadelphia Flyers. Clarke was named to nine straight All-Star Games from 1970-1978 and helped the Flyers to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975. In 1987, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1998, The Hockey News rated Clarke #24 on its Top 100 NHL Players of All-Time list.
Clarke, who served as Philadelphia’s captain from 1973-1979 and 1982-1984, won a number of individual awards during his playing days, most notably three Hart Memorial Trophies in 1973, 1975 and 1976. He also was the recipient in 1972 of the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, recognizing his sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication to hockey, as well as the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 1983 in honor of his strong defensive abilities.
Clarke is Philadelphia\'s all-time leader in games played (1,144), assists (852), points (1,210) and shorthanded goals (32). During the Flyers’ first Stanley Cup run in 1973-1974, he contributed 35 goals and 52 assists. The following season, he netted 27 goals and 89 assists while in 1975-1976, he set a career-high with 119 points.
After retiring from playing, Clarke enjoyed a long NHL front office career, serving as general manager of the Flyers, Minnesota North Stars and Florida Panthers. In that role, he helped lead Philadelphia to three more appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals as well as one with Minnesota.
