Ron Hextall is a former NHL goalie who played from 1986-1999, mainly with the Philadelphia Flyers (1986-1992, 1994-1999) but also the Quebec Nordiques (1992-1993) and New York Islanders (1993-1994). A 2008 inductee into the Flyers Hall of Fame, Hextall holds Philadelphia franchise records for most games played by a goaltender, most wins and most playoff wins. In 1987, 1988 and 1989, Hextall won the Bobby Clarke Trophy as the MVP of the Flyers.

As a rookie in 1986-1987, Hextall went 37-21 with a 3.00 goals against average, leading the Flyers to the Stanley Cup, where they eventually lost to Edmonton, 4-3. That season, Hextall was named a first-team All-Star and to the league’s All-Rookie Team along with being the recipient of the Vezina Trophy as the league’s most outstanding goalie. Additionally, Hextall won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP, becoming one of the few players in league history to be so honored from a team that didn’t end up winning the Stanley Cup.

After his playing days, Hextall became an NHL executive, serving with the Flyers as a player personnel coach and eventual general manager. Hextall won a Stanley Cup win the L.A. Kings for the 2011-2012 season when he served as the team’s assistant general manager.
