Chad Pennington is a former NFL quarterback who spent 11 years in the league competing for the New York Jets (2000-2007) and Miami Dolphins (2008-2010). As the 18th pick overall in the 1st round of the 2000 NFL Draft by New York, Pennington enjoyed a breakout season in 2002 when he led the Jets to an AFC East title and passed for 3,120 yards along with 22 touchdowns. His 104.2 passer rating led the league that season. In both the 2006 and 2008 seasons, Pennington bounced back after injury-plagued prior years to play all 16 games, earning NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors for his efforts in the two campaigns. The 2006 season saw him record 3,652 yards passing with 17 touchdowns while in 2008, he logged a 97.4 passer rating and tossed 19 scores.
Pennington played for the Jets through 2007 before moving south to Miami to play for the Dolphins from 2008-2010. In total for his career, Pennington threw for 17,823 yards and 102 touchdowns, compiling a 90.1 passer rating while completing 66 percent of his passes attempted. Prior to the NFL, Pennington played college football at Marshall, where he was a Heisman finalist in 1999 along with earning such honors as MAC Conference MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and the William V. Campbell Trophy. Pennington and his wife Robin in 2003 created the 1st and 10 Foundation, a charitable organization that operates in Tennessee, New York City and West Virginia.
