Darrell Green is a former NFL cornerback who played his entire career with the Washington Redskins from 1983-2002. A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, class of 2008, Green attended college at Texas A&I University (now known as Texas A&M-Kingsville), where he was a standout on the football team and also in track and field. He was an All-American on the gridiron in 1982 and his 100-meter dash time of 10.08 seconds that same year is still a Lone Star Conference record.
Green was the final selection in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft and made an immediate impact in Washington, starting all 16 games as a rookie. With the Redskins, Green won two Super Bowl rings in 1988 and 1992. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and earned the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award, honoring a player’s excellence on the field along with charitable and volunteer work, in 1996. Green holds NFL records for most consecutive seasons with an interception (19) and most games played by a defender (295). His 54 career picks and 258 starts are Redskins franchise records, as well. Dating back to his playing days, Green has been active in his community. He founded the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation in 1988, which benefits children in need. In 2016, he was hired as an assistant athletic director at George Mason University.
