David Wright is a retired third baseman who spent his entire 14-year career from 2004-2016 & 2018 with the New York Mets. He was a seven-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove Award winner and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He holds numerous Mets club records, including most All-Star games, career RBIs, hits, runs scored, doubles and total bases. In 2013, Wright was named captain, just the fourth in franchise history (along with Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez and John Franco). Wright finished his career with a .296 batting average, 970 RBIs and 242 home runs. In 2008 & 2009, he received the Mets Heart & Hustle Award.

Wright was born in Norfolk, Virginia and attended Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was drafted by the Mets in the 2001 amateur draft. Wright made his MLB debut against the Montreal Expos on July 21, 2004. That year, he was named This Week In Baseball Awards Rookie of the Year. He was nicknamed “Captain America” after his performance in the World Baseball Classic in 2013 when he finished with the most RBIs of any player in the tournament. In 2019, Wright was named by the Mets as a special advisor to the CEO and general manager.
