Eddie George is a retired NFL running back who enjoyed a nine-year career with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans (1996-2003) and Dallas Cowboys (2004). George was a four-time Pro Bowl selection in consecutive years from 1997-2000 and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2000. During that time, he ran for at least 1,294 yards every season and during his eight years with the Oilers/Titans, he never missed a game, failing to hit the 1,000 rushing yard mark just one time. The 2000 season saw him set career-highs with 403 rushing attempts, 1,509 yards and 14 touchdowns.
George was selected in the1st round of the 1996 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, where in 1995 as a senior he produced one of the most memorable campaigns by a college football running back ever, rushing for 1,927 yards that culminated in him winning the Heisman Trophy. That same year, he also won the Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award while being honored as the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Year and conference MVP. At the end of his college career, George was considered one of the greatest players in Buckeyes history and was ranked second all-time in career yards rushing with 3,768 and third in touchdowns on the ground with 44. His jersey #27 was retired by the school in 2001.
After leaving Ohio State for the NFL, George quickly emerged as a star and was named recipient of the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 1996 after amassing 1,368 yards. George is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, class of 2011 as well as the Titans/Oilers Ring of Honor. In 2019, Tennessee retired his jersey number.
