Eric Karros played first base for 14 seasons in the majors for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1991-2002), Chicago Cubs (2003) and Oakland Athletics (2004). In 1992, he won N.L. Rookie of the Year honors after notching 20 homers with 88 RBI. In 1995, Karros came in fifth in N.L. MVP voting and was awarded a Silver Slugger Award with a .298 average along with 32 homers and 105 RBI. Karros had near identical follow-up campaigns in 1996 and 1997, hitting 34 and 31 home runs, respectively, while recording 104 and 111 RBI. Between 1995-2000, Karros hit at least 30 home runs and knocked-in 100 RBI in all but one season.
After spending the vast majority of his career with the Dodgers, Karros rounded out his playing days in Chicago and Oakland before retiring after the 2004 season. He is Los Angeles’ all-time leader in sacrifice flies with 74 while the 270 home runs he hit in a Dodgers uniform ranks third all-time in franchise history. In total for his career, Karros batted .268 with 284 homers and 1,027 RBI.
After his playing days, Karros turned to broadcasting, working as a color analyst for Fox’s coverage of Major League Baseball. He previously worked on the Dodgers pre-game tv show for KCAL-TV. Karros was born on November 4, 1967 in Hackensack, New Jersey and played college baseball at UCLA.
