Born on September 4, 1968 in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Piazza first signed to play college baseball at the University of Miami before transferring to Miami-Dade Community College. Piazza was drafted by the Dodgers in the 1998 MLB Draft in the 62nd round as a favor from Lasorda to Piazza's father. Piazza made his MLB debut for Los Angeles on September 1, 1992.
