James Conner has played running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers since being picked by the team in the 2017 NFL Draft (3rd round). Conner was named to the Pro Bowl in just his second season in the league in 2018 after he started 12 games and amassed 973 on the ground and another 497 yards through the air with 13 touchdowns. Born on May 5, 1995 in Erie, Pennsylvania, Conner played college football at Pitt from 2013-2016. During his sophomore campaign, Conner rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 scores in route to being named ACC Player of the Year, ACC Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. In December of 2015, Conner made public that he had been diagnosed with a type of cancer called Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A little over five months later in May of 2016, he announced that he was free of cancer. Conner was honored that same year with the Courage Award by the Stanley M. Marks Blood Cancer Research Fund. The honor has since been renamed the James Conner Courage Award. In 2020, Conner authored the book “Fear Is A Choice: Tackling Life’s Challenges With Dignity, Faith And Determination”.
