Jay Williams has worked as an analyst and co-host for ESPN since 2003, appearing on such shows as “NBA Countdown”, “First Take”, “Get Up”, “College GameDay” and “Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin”. Prior to working for ESPN, Williams covered college basketball for CBS Sports Network in 2007 and was heard on 99.9 The Fan radio station in North Carolina. Before his broadcast career, Williams enjoyed a standout college basketball career at Duke from 1999-2002 before being selected by the Bulls in the first round (2nd overall pick) in the 2002 NBA Draft, where he played until 2004. During his freshman season at Duke, Williams was named National Freshman of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year thanks to a per game average of 14.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds. The next season, he averaged 21.6 points per game for the Blue Devils and played an integral role in the team winning the NCAA National Championship in 2001, the third in program history.
Williams was a first-team All-American in 2001 and 2002, earning first-team All-ACC honors in both years as well. The National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) crowned him Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002 and he was also named the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year in 2002 and won the Wooden Award the same year.Williams had his jersey #22 retired by Duke, which put him in elite company with other Duke greats including Christian Laettner, Grant Hill, Shane Battier and J.J. Redick. He became a member of the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. Away from basketball, Williams co-founded Simatree, a consulting company, and has been part-owner of a restaurant in New York City called The Cabin NYC. He has also served as CEO of the Rising Stars Youth Foundation, a board member of USA Basketball and a voting member on the committee of the John Wooden Award.
