John Salley enjoyed a long career in the NBA playing for the Detroit Pistons (1986-1992), Miami Heat (1992-1995), Toronto Raptors (1995-1996), Chicago Bulls (1996) and Los Angeles Lakers (1999-2000). He was picked by the Pistons in 1986 in the 1st round of the NBA Draft and enjoyed success as part of Detroit’s famed “Bad Boys” teams with teammates Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, Isiah Thomas, Rick Mahorn and Joe Dumars. Salley won four NBA titles, two with Detroit and one each with Los Angeles and Chicago. Along with Tim Duncan, Salley is the only player in league history to win titles in three different decades. In total for his career, Salley recorded a per game average of 7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.
Salley retired in 2000 and embarked on a successful entertainment career. He served as host of The Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports Net and appeared on a variety of tv shows and in numerous movies, including Hollywood Squares, I Can’t Believe You Said That, Noah’s Arc, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here!, Ballers and Basketball Wives among others. Salley is also an active supporter of the vegan lifestyle, an entrepreneur in the cannabis industry and a supporter of such organizations as Operation Smile, PETA and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Salley was born on May 16, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York, attended high school at Canarsie High School and played college basketball at Georgia Tech, who retired his jersey number.
