Isiah Thomas is a Hall of Fame guard who played in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons from 1981-1994. Thomas played an integral role in the Pistons winning two NBA titles in 1989 and 1990 and was named Finals MVP in 1990. He was named an NBA All-Star 12 times – twice he was named the game’s MVP – and was a First-Team All-NBA pick three times. He retired as Detroit’s all-time leading scorer as well as the franchise leader in total # of games played, assists and steals. The Pistons retired his jersey #11 and he became a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.
Thomas was picked by the Pistons in the 1st round (#2 overall) in the 1981 draft out of the University of Indiana, where he was one of the most celebrated basketball players in school history. During his time in Bloomington, Thomas was a consensus All-American in 1981 and helped the Hoosiers to the NCAA title that same year in route to being honored as the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. In 2006, Thomas was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
Thomas grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and went to St. Joseph High School, where he helped the school to a berth in the state finals during his junior season. After retiring from playing in the NBA, he spent time as head coach for the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and Florida International University.
