Jonathan Vilma is a former NFL linebacker who played 10 professional seasons from 2004-2013 with the New York Jets (2004-2007) and New Orleans Saints (2008-2013). A 2017 inductee into the Saints Hall of Fame, Vilma played a significant role for the team in its first ever championship season when in 2009 he posted 110 tackles and three interceptions, helping lead the Saints to victory in Super Bowl XLIV.
Vilma spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jets, where in 2004, his first year in the league, he had 107 tackles, two sacks and three picks, a campaign that earned him NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. In 2005, he led the NFL in tackles with 169, which was a personal best. Vilma was a three-time Pro Bowl selection (2005, 2009, 2010) and finished his career with 871 tackles along with 12 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles.
A first-round pick out of the University Miami in 2004 by the Jets, Vilma won a national title with the Hurricanes in 2001. That same year he was also named first-team All-Big East. As a senior in 2003, Vilma was a first-team All-American and won the Jack Lambert Trophy. After his playing days, Vilma worked for ESPN as a college football analyst.
