Kristine Lilly was a member of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team from 1987-2010. Lilly is a 2015 inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame and her 354 career soccer appearances for the United States is the most among any man or woman to play internationally for any country. Lilly’s 130 total goals scored ranks third in USWNT history, trailing only Abby Wambach (184) and Mia Hamm (158).
Lilly played in a total of five FIFA Women’s World Cups and helped lead the United States to victory in two (1991, 1999). Lilly furthermore won gold medals with the U.S. at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta as well as the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. In 2000, she helped the U.S. to a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
Lilly played college soccer for North Carolina from 1989-1992, winning NCAA Championships in each year. In 1992 as a senior, she won the Honda Sports Award, which is awarded annually to the best female collegiate athlete in their respective sport. Outside of her college and U.S. international career, Lilly played professionally in Sweden for Tyreso FF (1994) and KIF Orebro DFF (2005). She also played for the Boston Breakers of Women’s Professional Soccer (2001-2003, 2009-2011). In 2012, she was hired as an assistant coach for the Breakers and, in 2019, she co-authored the book "Powerhouse: 13 Teamwork Tactics that Build Excellence and Unrivaled Success".
